LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) — A man has been indicted on two counts of vehicular homicide in connection with a May 2024 crash that took the lives of two children.

In a June 24 indictment, members of a grand jury alleged that Uwezoi Ndume, 31, allegedly drove drunk on the night of May 26, 2024, causing a crash that killed Daleyza Ortiz, 8, and Kiza Nundu, 71.

Officials with the Lexington Police Department said in a news release that Ndume was arrested in Louisville on Tuesday and is awaiting extradition to Fayette County.

Court documents show Ndume was originally charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol. In June, a grand jury additionally charged him with two counts of vehicular homicide.

His next court appearance will be for a pretrial conference set for 10 a.m
