HINTON, WV (WVNS) -- For nearly 81 years, a family wondered what became of their son, brother, uncle, who went overseas to serve his country in World War II.

Now, Private First Class Basil Marion Cook has finally come home.

Private First Class Basil Marion Cook was born on November 11, 1913 in Summers County, West Virginia.

Just fourteen days after his thirty-first birthday, on November 25, 1944, he was killed when his tank drove over a landmine in Germany.

For over eighty years, his parents, siblings, nieces, and nephews wondered what happened to him and if his body would ever be returned home.

After DNA testing provided a positive match to his still living relatives, PFC Cook has finally been laid to rest in Hinton, his hometown.
