EUGENE, Ore. - A fire erupted near the Oregon Horse Center on Tuesday, threatening the facility as it spread from a nearby hay field.
Flames came dangerously close to one of the barns, prompting a swift response from the center's crew. Mario Landeros, a crew member with 25 years of experience at the Oregon Horse Center, took decisive action by driving the water truck directly into the fire's path.
"The fire started on the other side of the tree over there and we get our water truck and we start helping from this side too stop the fire on those burned trees," Landeros said. "We just do what we have to do, so we don't want the chaving to get burned or the barn," said Landeros.
