Several popular trails in Anchorage are now closed due to heightened bear activity.
The Municipality’s Parks and Recreation Department has temporarily shut down multiple trails in Far North Bicentennial Park and the BLM Campbell Tract. The closures include Rover’s Run, Viewpoint Trail, and Salmon Run Trail.
Officials say the recent influx of salmon in nearby creeks is drawing more bears to the area, raising safety concerns for hikers and bikers.
The decision to close the trails was made in coordination with the Alaska Department of Fish and Game and the Bureau of Land Management. It's a proactive measure aimed at protecting both people and wildlife.
These closures will remain in effect until further notice.
