BOSSIER CITY, La. (KTAL/KMSS) - Bossier schools begin classes on August 9th, but as students return to school across Bossier City, officials are reminding drivers to slow down and stay alert behind the wheel.

"Mainly it's speeding and cell phone use in the school zone," said Bossier Police officer Darron Kerry.

Officers say it's not just dangerous, but now it's also illegal. In Louisiana, holding your phone while driving in a school zone is against the law.

"You can't have your phone in your hand. It's hands-free in a school zone," said Kerry.

The safety zones require your full attention. With reduced speed limits… And crossing guards directing traffic in school zones are back, and when it comes to school buses…
