PHOENIX (AZFamily) — United Airlines says a system outage is forcing the airline to request a ground stop at several major airports across the country.

As of 5:45 p.m., at least seven flights were experiencing delays at Phoenix Sky Harbor, but that number is expected to grow in the coming hours. Sky Harbor is currently not under a ground stop, according to the FAA.

In a statement to CBS News’ transportation reporter Kris Van Cleave, the airline is blaming a technology issue that is prompting them to hold departures.

The airline told impacted passengers on X, formerly Twitter: “We are experiencing a system-wide outage affecting many departures, and our teams are working to resolve this as quickly as possible. Your patience is greatly appreciated and we sincerely apologize.”
