KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- Wyandotte County District Attorney Mark Dupree announced that he will seek the death penalty in the case of Elijah Ming, the Wyandotte County Sheriff’s Deputy killed in a shooting less than two weeks ago.
Leavenworth County Attorney Todd Thompson says seeking the death penalty doesn’t change the case for the state.
“We just have to pursue it like it's any other case,” Thompson said.
“And I understand that it weighs maybe differently for others, but we have the same goal that’s trying to put it forward, argue motions and fight that case.”
He says that Dupree would not have sought the sentence if he didn’t think that the evidence was strong enough against Harris to get a conviction.
