Defending women’s singles champion Brooke Buckner won two matches on Wednesday at the Professional Pickleball Association’s Veolia Bristol Open.

Buckner opened the event with an 11-1, 11-5 opening-round win over Milan Raine and followed that up with an 11-7, 11-7 quarterfinal victory over Catherine Parenteau as she aims for a repeat.

There will be a new men’s singles champion in the event as Max Freeman eliminated 2024 winner Ben Johns with an 11-6, 0-11, 11-9 victory in the Round of 32.

The most exciting development on Wednesday was the play of 2020 Tennessee High graduate David Bieger.

He stunned sixth-seeded Tyson McGuffin in the Round of 64 with an 11-6, 7-11, 11-9 triumph.

Mota Alhouni eliminated the 59th-seedied Bieger 11-9, 5-11, 11-3 in the Round of 32.
