SUPERIOR, Wis. (Northern News Now) - As of Wednesday, the City of Superior is the new manager of three Superior museums, which they’ve owned but not operated for the past 25 years.
Superior Mayor Jim Paine says the change came about as part of an ongoing review of the city’s relationships with outside organizations.
“Generally speaking, when things belong to the City of Superior, their government runs them, so that’s what we did,” said Paine. “We put the people in charge of the museums.”
Since 1999, the Fairlawn Mansion, the S.S. Meteor, and the Old Firehouse and Police Museum have been run by nonprofit Superior Public Museums.
Paine says the city’s resources will allow it to run the museums more efficiently, saying the city has already been paying for the museums.
