Steinbach City Council has voted to accept several safety changes around Southwood School.

In April, the school sent a letter to city councillors requesting a reduced-speed school zone of 30 km/h, with signage, on Kroeker Avenue between Second and Third Streets. It also made several other safety requests which it found necessary for students' wellbeing.

Council asked the city’s administration to take a look and come back with safety recommendations.

On Tuesday, city manager Troy Warkentin presented those recommendations at a council meeting.

Warkentin shared three main suggestions with council.

Firstly, he recommended that school area signs be installed along Kroeker Avenue and Southwood Drive to let drivers know when they’re entering and leaving
