HOLLY SPRINGS, Miss. - Following an audit that revealed the Holly Springs Utility Department's metering infrastructure was headed toward a "death spiral," regulators are ordering the leaders of the utility department to attend a hearing next month.

"Our goal is to make sure this crisis is solved," said Commissioner Chris Brown, chairman of the Mississippi Public Service Commission, at a meeting on Tuesday.

As FOX13 reported last week , a new 75-page audit found the utility department is understaffed and overwhelmed from "decades" of neglect.

"The utility's metering and billing process is in chaos," the audit stated . "Current management is incapable of achieving any real improvements moving forward."
