Donnie Auton was watching a storm outside his Gilbert Road home in Statesville on Friday, Aug. 1, when he heard the sound of a tree crashing through the back of his house.
"It sounded like a bomb going off," Auton said.
Several trees fell onto the A-frame home, breaking through the upper-level roof. No one was injured, but the home is currently without water as Donnie Auton and his father, Bill Auton, assess the damage.
The trees partially exposed a room upstairs. A piece of PVC pipe that belonged in the upstairs bathroom was found in a bathtub downstairs after it tore through the ceiling. One tree snapped across the apex of the roof.
Donnie Auton said he a tornado was coming through due to the damage and the twirling debris he watched out his front window. Down the street on Gilbert R
