CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — Kyler Goettsch, a 28-year-old from Cedar Rapids, was sentenced to 11 years in federal prison for illegally possessing firearms.

Goettsch admitted to possessing two pistols in November 2023 despite previous convictions for four felonies and a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence. His arrest followed a brief standoff where he failed to comply with officers' commands.

United States District Court Judge Leonard T. Strand sentenced Goettsch to 132 months in prison, followed by a three-year supervised release. There is no parole in the federal system.
