This year marked the 10th anniversary of Chapin/Newberry Post 193/24 winning the American Legion World Series.

Wednesday afternoon in Asheboro, N.C., Richland Post 215 moved a step closer towards reaching Shelby when it rolled past Puerto Rico in six innings 10-0 in the opening round of the Southeast Region.

Alvin Murray of Cardinal Newman singlehandedly outhit the entire Puerto Rican team. He started with a 2-run homer in the Bottom 1st, followed by an RBI sacrifice fly in the second inning to make it 4-0.

In the Bottom 4th, Murray followed a solo home run by Jacob Muir of Dreher with one of his own to make it 6-0. After an RBI single by Mason O’Cain of Ben Lippen made it 7-0, Murray closed out the victory with a bases-clearing single in the sixth inning.
