BISMARCK, ND (KXNET) - Dr. Denise Lajimodiere will continue serving as North Dakota’s Poet Laureate through June 2028, following a decision by the North Dakota Council on the Arts to extend her term. The move aligns with recent legislation that created a five-year term for the newly established State Troubadour position.

Lajimodiere, a citizen of the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa, was first appointed in 2023 for a two-year term. She is a longtime educator, having worked as a teacher, principal and professor, and holds three degrees from the University of North Dakota. She retired from North Dakota State University, where she taught in the education leadership program.
