AUGUSTA, Maine (WABI) - A Clinton man will spent seven years in prison for shooting his girlfriend in the neck at their home last fall, according to the Kennebec Journal.
The paper reports 70-year-old Andrew Fertig learned his sentence from a judge in an Augusta courtroom Thursday.
The KJ reports Fertig was initially charged with attempted murder, but later pleaded guilty to lesser felony domestic violence charges.
The paper says Fertig addressed the court, taking responsibility for what happened and saying he was embarrassed and sorry.
WABI previously reported police in October went to Fertig’s house, where his girlfriend was shot in the neck.
She survived the shooting.
Police say Fertig was extremely drunk at the time.
