KILLDEER, N.D. — A 62-year-old Killdeer man, previously arrested on felony counts related to bringing a gun to the Killdeer Public School, has been found "not criminally responsible" for his actions due to "mental illness."

Allen Bang remains admitted at the North Dakota State Hospital under a separate court order.

Bang was arrested in October 2024 after law enforcement alleged he appeared at Killdeer High School, threatened a subcontractor and brandished a firearm. Deputies recovered two handguns at the scene.

Killdeer Superintendent Jeff Simmons could not be reached for comment by The Dickinson Press regarding Bang’s release.

Court documents allege Bang attempted to enter the high school, claiming to be a U.S. marshal with permission from Dunn County Sheriff Gary Kuhn.
