WILLISTON, N.D. (KUMV) - The idea of having a drone drop your packages off at your home may sound like a fantasy, but the concept is being tested right here in North Dakota.
This week, the Federal Aviation Administration is proposing rules to speed up that process for interested developers.
It’s still a way from being commercially viable, but developers said drone deliveries will happen one day, especially in rural areas like North Dakota.
Last month, the University of North Dakota’s project “RuralReach” successfully delivered a test vial of medicine from Williston to Watford City and did so significantly faster than by car. iSight Drone Services handled the operation, and General Manager Doug McDonald said it’s all about being able to fly beyond the pilot’s visual line of sight.
