LUFKIN, Texas (KETK) -- The Lufkin Police Department shared safety tips for students, parents and community members to use during the 2025 school year.

Sergeant Eddie Ibarra and Corporal Carter Willmon from Lufkin PD sat down with KETK's Haylee Hines to discuss how East Texas communities can create a safe school environment.

Mind school zones

Since many East Texans are accustomed to clearer roads and less congestion during summer break, it can be challenging to adjust to increased traffic levels near schools. Ibarra explained what people can expect to see in school zones once the school year starts.
