MT. OLIVE, N.C. (WITN) - An investigation by the state auditor into Mt. Olive’s finances has revealed fraud within the town’s water department and airport.

Among the findings are hundreds of water cutoff fees that were voided every month.

State Auditor Dave Boliek says the same water department employee who voided the fees also manipulated the system so her own water service wasn’t disconnected despite not paying her own utility bills.

The report also found that a town commissioner didn’t pay his utility bill for several months, yet his water service was never disconnected.

It goes on to say that his $100 cutoff fee was voided nine times throughout the year, and he didn’t make a single payment on his utility bill in 2024 until the North Carolina Off
