COLUMBIA, S.C. — Some members of the South Carolina National Guard could soon be helping with new duties in the U.S. Immigration Enforcement Agency's (ICE) stepped-up efforts on illegal immigration.

The South Carolina National Guard confirmed to News19 that there has been a request for 40 South Carolina National Guard members under Title 32 status. The guard said the service members would assist ICE with administrative duties.

"We anticipate service members will be placed on Title 32 status before the end of the month, the locations have not been established," said Maj. Karla Evans with the South Carolina National Guard.
