The Grenada County Sheriff’s Office has issued a formal notice requiring the immediate removal of all non-FDA approved hemp products being sold within the county. The notice, signed by Sheriff Garrett Hartley, states that the products are considered “controlled substances” under Mississippi law.

In the letter addressed “To Whom It May Concern,” Sheriff Hartley references a recent legal review, including a June 11, 2025, Mississippi Attorney General’s Opinion, which determined that any hemp products marketed for human ingestion or consumption that have not received explicit FDA approval are in violation of state law. The letter cites the Controlled Substances Act, Hemp Cultivation Act, and Medical Marijuana Act as part of the legal basis.
