DALHART, Texas (KFDA) - School districts across the area are making changes to their cellphone policies following the signing of Texas House Bill 1481.
NewsChannel 10 is tracking the area school districts updated policies ahead of the new school year.
In order to align with the bill, Dalhart ISD’s policy for the upcoming school year requires students to turn in their personal communication devices before class begins.
Dalhart Superintendent Jeff Byrd says this includes during lunch and off-campus lunch.
The first offense for students if caught with a device will be confiscation until the end of the school day.
The second offense will be confiscation of the device for 10 days, and the third offense is a 30-day confiscation.
