A 16-year-old Quebec resident is facing a handful of charges in connection with a vehicle theft in Woolwich.

Waterloo Regional Police said on Thursday, at approximately 4:30 a.m., an officer on patrol in the area of Barnswallow Drive and Whippoorwill Drive saw a grey Toyota Tundra travelling at a high rate of speed, but due to concerns for public safety, did not pursue the vehicle.

The officer confirmed the truck has been stolen from a residence on Barnswallow Drive, and the incident linked to an attempted theft of another vehicle, a Toyota Sequoia, on Nightingale Crescent around 3:10 a.m.

A short time later, at approximately 4:55 a.m., South Division patrol officers saw the vehicle travelling south on Highway 8, entering the eastbound lanes of Highway 401.
