But behind the accolades and tireless energy is a stark reality — one that he says is the result of outdated, discriminatory government policies that have left him fighting to live with dignity.

“I only have 12 hours of care per day,” said Lytwyn, who has Cerebral Palsy and uses a power wheelchair. “That means the rest of the time, I’m alone. Every part of my day has to be scheduled — when I get up, eat, use the washroom, go to bed. There’s no flexibility. No freedom.”
