CHATHAM COUNTY, Ga. (WSAV) — The Chatham County Police Department (CCPD) released new crime statistics that show a 17.9% decrease in year-to-date Part I crime in 2025, compared to 2024.
To date in 2025, through Aug. 5, CCPD reported a 25.2% decrease in violent crime, 16.8% decrease in property crime and a total of 17.9% decrease in Part I crime.
There has only been 1 reported homicide in 2025, compared to five reported to date in 2024.
Part I crimes are used for statistics as the FBI said the Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Program chose them because they "are serious crimes, they occur with regularity in all areas of the country, and they are likely to be reported to police."
