CRAWFORD COUNTY, ARKANSAS, Ark. — A Florida man caught transporting hundreds of pounds of drugs in Arkansas last year has been sentenced to life in prison after facing a jury.

Derrick Scudder, 36, of Miami, fled an attempted traffic stop by Oklahoma Highway Patrol on Sept. 23, 2024. After crossing into Arkansas, he crashed near a school in Alma off Highway 64.

Officials said Scudder was located and arrested a short time later by Arkansas State Police (ASP). Inside his car, law enforcement found over 240 pounds of methamphetamine and over 2 pounds of fentanyl concealed in suitcases.

On Aug. 5, 2025, a Crawford County jury sentenced Scudder to life in prison for fentanyl trafficking, 50 years for methamphetamine trafficking, and 30 years for fleeing, all running consecutively.
