SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) - A lawsuit KSLA has been following has now been bumped up to federal court.

An attorney says she was fired from her position as Shreveport’s clerk of council after she complained about a councilman making unwanted advances towards her.

The city hired Shanerika Flemings in February of 2023.

She claims over the next seven months, she faced sex and race-based harassment and discrimination from Councilman Gary Brooks. The lawsuit alleges Brooks asked Flemings out on dates and made sexually inappropriate comments about her appearance.

The suit goes on to say that Brooks retaliated by making false allegations against Flemings.
