SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) - School zones are already up and running in some parishes and will soon be active all across Louisiana.

That means drivers will see more visible markings near schools thanks to a new state law. This includes two bright yellow stripes on the road to let you know you’re entering a school zone.

There are also more signs telling you cameras are in the area.

Police say the technology takes away the need for officers to patrol the area.

“Prior to the speed camera enforcement, yes, we were having to use our patrol officer to actually patrol these school zones. So, in doing so, this actually frees up some of our patrol officers to answer calls more quickly, as well as investigate calls further,” Chris Bordelon explained.
