STEINHATCHEE, Fla. (WCTV) - Scallop season, a summer tradition that draws thousands to Florida’s Big Bend every year, is officially underway and the waters off Steinhatchee are buzzing with activity.

From veteran scallopers to wide-eyed first-timers, people are diving into the experience with mesh bags in hand and excitement in the air.

Among them is a family from Missouri, who made the trip to Steinhatchee for their very first scalloping adventure.

“Once you find one or two, you know there’s more,” Tarun Maisuria. “So, I just kept looking and hunting. Keeping a close eye out, and eventually you can see their eyes sort of glitter in the sunshine, so you can spot them from a distance.”
