GRADY COUNTY, Ga. (WCTV) - Class is back in session at Grady County Schools (GCS) and district officials are reminding the community of expectations and the importance of safety.

The school district welcomed students back to school Thursday and as they return, the district is ensuring the children have a safe and successful year.

Michael Best, the school district’s chief operations officer, said they are banning cellphones at school. It’s to get ahead of Georgia’s House Bill 340, known as the Distraction-Free Education Act, which requires school systems to enact procedures and policies for personal electronic device usage “at school and school-sponsored events by students in kindergarten 5 through eighth grade,” according to the Georgia General Assembly .
