NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — A Waterbury man pleaded guilty Wednesday in federal court to possession of a firearm as part of a drug trafficking crime.
According to evidence and testimony, Waterbury police officers made controlled narcotics purchases from Malik Wright, 22, in July and August 2024. Police also observed other drug sales involving Wright.
On Aug. 29, 2024, officers saw Wright stash a satchel in the tire area of an abandoned vehicle in a vacant lot in the vicinity of Coe and High streets before conducting a drug sale.
Wright was arrested and officers located the satchel, which contained a loaded .40-caliber handgun with a 23-round magazine, along with cocaine and fentanyl.
Wright has been detained since his arrest. He faces a mandatory minimum sentence of five years in prison
