The United Steelworkers union and oil companies that employ union members will soon begin negotiating new contracts, including for workers at the BP Whiting Refinery.

The USW convened its National Oil Bargaining Conference in Pittsburgh this week to prepare for negotiations. Union leaders from around the world met to discuss priorities, goals and strategy going into the latest round of contract talks.

"Delegates from each local union met in regional and employer groups to talk about the top issues impacting you," the USW said in an update to members. "These meetings help shape our national bargaining goals."

The USW's elected policy committee then met to develop a proposed national bargaining agenda that factors in ideas pitched by local union representatives.
