BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) -- U.S. Secretary of Education Linda McMahon will be traveling to Louisiana to visit a Baton Rouge school Monday, Aug. 11.

The Louisiana Department of Education (LDOE) said McMahon will learn about the state's progress with K-12 education during her visit. She will do classroom tours and participate in a literacy roundtable at Jefferson Terrace Academy.

LDOE has reported score improvements in the Louisiana Educational Assessment Program, commonly referred to as LEAP, and improved reading skills for young students. Gov. Jeff Landry celebrated educational progress after The Nation's Report Card showed the state's rankings rose.
