LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A young child is injured after a shooting Thursday morning in the Parkland neighborhood.

At about 11:40 a.m., Louisville Metro police responded to a call regarding a shooting victim who had been transported by private means to Norton West Louisville Hospital, according to an LMPD news release.

LMPD officials said a child believed to be around 4 years old had sustained a gunshot wound. The child was treated and transferred to Norton Children's Hospital.

The child was alert and conscious. LMPD officials say they believe they will survive.

Investigators believe the shooting happened inside a home in the 2700 block of Garland Avenue.

LMPD's Non-Fatal Shooting Unit is currently investigating.
