THE Transportation Security Administration has warned travelers against chucking three common beauty items in checked bags.

Flyers could risk losing the expensive equipment for good if they pack it incorrectly.

If a hair straightener is cordless and operates with a battery instead, it should be treated carefully, the TSA warned.

This is partially because they often have lithium-ion batteries , which are banned from being stowed under a plane as they can spontaneously combust.

Plus, if a straightener accidentally turns on during flight, it could overheat, catch fire, or explode, according to the National Fire Protection Association.

According to the TSA, flyers can only bring the cordless equipment if it's packed in a carry-on bag and comes with a safety cover.
