WATERTOWN, New York (WWNY) - They’re calling themselves an ‘empathy caravan,’ a line of cars and people making their way around the state to call attention to the Trump administration’s immigration policy.
The caravan stopped in Watertown Thursday, after starting on Long Island, making its way to the north country - Potsdam first, then Ogdensburg and then Watertown.
In Ogdensburg, they held a vigil outside the district office of Rep. Elise Stefanik.
“Many of us fail to see and appreciate how valuable immigrants are to our own well-being. If you do a raid of a dairy farm and take all the dairy workers away, then nobody’s milking the cows,” said Richard Witt, Executive Director of the Rural and Migrant Ministry, which organized the caravan.
The vehicles in the caravan bear messages like
