CANFIELD - Traffic was at a standstill in Canfield on Thursday after an accident prompted authorities to shut down a portion of State Route (SR) 224.

The accident was reported just before 4:45 p.m. in front of the Canfield Wendy's and Haus Autogroup, just before the bridge over the Ohio Turnpike.

The Mahoning County Sheriff's Office confirmed that both lanes of traffic were shut down and drivers were being instructed to turn around.

The obstruction was caused by a two-vehicle crash. It is currently unknown if anybody was injured in the incident, but a witness reported that several ambulances were en route to the scene.
