COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - A former South Carolina Department of Corrections nurse was sentenced Thursday after pleading guilty to multiple crimes.
Jameelah Khadijah Fortune has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for bringing drugs into the Broad River Correctional Institute and having a relationship with an inmate.
Fortune was charged with trafficking methamphetamine, 10 to 28 grams, attempting to furnish a prisoner with contraband, possession with intent to distribute marijuana and criminal conspiracy.
The investigation initially began after SCDC officers seized a cellphone from inmate Ancel Harris that was shown to have thousands of text messages between him and Fortune and additional evidence of criminal activity.
