LAKE LURE, N.C. (WSPA) -- A Lake Lure attraction will soon be demolished after enduring significant structural damages from Hurricane Helene in 2024.

Town officials said assessments completed by multiple engineering firms determined that the Lake Lure Flowering Bridge cannot be restored.

The bridge, originally constructed in 1925, was converted into a pedestrian garden walkway in 2013. Over the years, the featured 30 themed gardens on the bridge, officials said.

The bridge will be removed by Mitch Contracting starting on August 18.
