A police dog assisting with an arrest in Surrey on Monday is recovering after suffering minor injuries during the early-morning incident.

According to a news release, Lotto – with the Lower Mainland District Integrated Police Dog Service – was allegedly slashed after tracking a suspect into a wooded area in the 16900-block of 86A Avenue.

He and his handler had been dispatched to the scene shortly before 6:30 a.m. Aug. 4 to assist members of the RCMP Surrey Provincial Operations Support Unit, who were looking for two suspects in connection with a theft from a vehicle.

Officers set up a perimeter to contain the pair, who had fled the scene.
