SHREVEPORT, La. -- A Shreveport mother was arrested Thursday morning after leaving her two-year-old child in a hot car in a store parking lot.

A citizen called police after seeing LaCrystol Johnson's child alone in the back seat of a vehicle parked in the Dollar Tree parking lot on Pines Road. A window had been left rolled down, but the car was not running and the interior was "dangerously hot," police said in a news release.

Officers could hear the child screaming across the parking lot. They found the child in a T-shirt and diaper and sweating heavily, Cpl. Chris Bordelon said.

Shortly afterward, Johnson returned to the car and was arrested on a charge of child desertion.

The child was checked out by Shreveport fire personnel then released to its father.
