MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. — Georgia College and State University received a $400,000 donation from a private foundation to provide full scholarships to 27 nursing students this school year as the state reports a critical shortage of healthcare workers .

The Lettie Pate Whitehead Foundation Nursing Scholarship Program targets students from 15 Central Georgia counties, offering comprehensive financial support that covers tuition, housing, books and other educational expenses.

Georgia ranks among the 10 states most affected by nursing shortages , according to the Federal Health Resources Service Administration. The scholarship program aims to recruit and retain nurses in rural areas where healthcare worker shortages are particularly acute.
