BAY CITY, Mich. (KTRE) - Hemphill’s Marshall Hughes was one of 66 anglers to hit the water in Bay City, Michigan, for Major League Fishing’s Toyota Stage 7 in Saginaw Bay.

Hughes sits in sixth place after day one.

Hughes caught 39 fish for 93 pounds, eight ounces. His big bass of the day weighed in at three pounds, one ounce. Jasper’s Todd Faircloth also sits above the elimination line after the first qualifying day. Faircloth caught 24 fish weighing 59 pounds, 15 ounces to put him in 16th place. Wills Point’s Jeff Sprague is in 51st after catching 11 fish for 27 pounds, two ounces. Sprague needs to reach the top 20 to advance to the knockout round.

The anglers will hit the water again on Friday at 6:45 a.m.
