MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - The Madison VA Hospital inducted the class of 2025 into the Purple Heart Hall of Honor.
The Purple Heart Hall of Honor recognizes veterans who received a Purple Heart medal for being wounded or killed in action.
This year’s inductees include service members from Edgerton, Fort Atkinson, Monticello and Waterloo.
Sgt. First Class William Maves, of Edgerton, served in the Marines from 1966-69, and the Army and Army National Guard from 1976-2006. Maves said he felt honored with the ceremony, and reflected on the meaning of the Purple Heart.
“You’ve got to remember that the Purple Heart is one medal or award that most people I know don’t want to earn it, because there is pain involved,” Maves said.
