BESSEMER, Ala. ( WBRC ) - A man attempting to cross the border into Mexico has been brought back to Alabama and is facing charges in a Bessemer murder investigation from July.

Around 2:23 a.m. on Sunday, July 6, 2025, deputies with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office were called to investigate a shooting in the 800 block of Willow Bend Lane in Bessemer.

When deputies arrived, they found 33-year-old Gumero Olvera Castro of Bessemer suffering gunshot wounds . He was pronounced dead at the scene by rescue crews.

After investigating, deputies say the victim and his brother-in-law - 35-year-old Luis Rey Guerro Martinez - were involved in a domestic dispute that led to Castro being shot.
