BANGOR, Maine (WABI) - A Bangor man is refuting details of his arrest after police say he assaulted a dog and its owner early Wednesday morning on Front Street.

Bangor Police say 34-year-old Dirk Weber allegedly punched a dog, and when the dog’s owner tried to intervene, Weber punched the owner as well.

On the advice of his attorney, Weber declined an on camera interview, but in a statement to WABI, Weber says: “That man’s dog was off leash and attacked my ADA certified seizure alert dog. I broke that fight up and the owner of the dog attacked me. Bangor PD arrested me and during that maced my seizure alert service dog.”

Weber did provide a photo of his dog’s ADA certification and says he filed a complaint with the Police Department.
