SPRINGFIELD ( 25News Now ) - The gates at the Illinois State fair are now open after a ribbon-cutting fair on Thursday morning.
This year’s fair will see many improvements to the fairgrounds, thanks to an $85.5 million grant from the Pritzker administration. This grant includes $30 million in major upgrades to the historic Coliseum, which was built in 1901.
The theme this year, “Adventure Awaits” is keeping with traditions of previous years that include agriculture, music, competition, and corn dogs with ketchup, while adding new entertainment for all ages.
Gov. JB Pritzker said he wants all Illinoisans, regardless of income, to be able to enjoy the fair.
