MONROE COUNTY, Ga. — Buc-ee's received final environmental approval to begin construction on its Monroe County location , clearing the last regulatory hurdle for the massive convenience store and gas station.

The Georgia Environmental Protection Division granted the Texas-based chain a stream buffer variance on July 30, which allows construction within 25 feet of state waters on the 30.79-acre tract on Rumble Road.

"Our customers know that they're going to go to a Buc-ee's before they ever even get into their car," Stan Beard, Buc-ee's real estate director, told Monroe County commissioners in December. "We are part of a road trip."
