MARLBOROUGH, Mass. —
Cheryl Juaire said she spent several years gathering 750 prepaid specialty license plate applications so that the Registry of Motor Vehicles would make an overdose awareness plate.
"Fortunately, with the registry, the RMV, there's no deadlines, so you can take 10 years,” Juaire said. “I didn't want to take 10 years; three and a half was long enough."
Sales of the plates benefit Team Sharing , a support group turned nonprofit organization that Juaire founded after losing the first of two sons to addiction.
Her son, Corey, died at the age of 23 in 2011. Her son, Sean, died 10 years later at the age of 42. Several months prior to his death, Juaire promised Sean she would see the license plate effort through.
